Recreational Soccer (U14) BIRTH YEARS 2006/2007 & 8th GRADERS BORN 2005
Recreational (Rec) Soccer continues building agility, stamina, and strength with more emphasis on the rules of the game and friendly competition. Practices are designed to build teamwork, fitness, skills, and the will to win.
These teams participate in the Farmington Valley Leauge which is made up of Rec teams from nearby towns including Avon, Burlington, Canton, Farmington, Granby, Simsbury, and other towns as teams are available. Games are generally on Saturday mornings. Occasionally there is one Sunday afternoon game per season. The season is generally 8-10 weeks with 4 games played at home and 4 games played away, however, the length of the season and number of games is subject to change. Attempts will be made to re-schedule any missed games; however, due to coach, field, and player availabily, rescheduling may not be possible. Rec schedules are announced as soon as they become available.
Rec Soccer teams generally meet two evenings during the week for 60-90 minute practices. Practices are frequently shortened by darkness in late Fall. Start times are usually dictated by the coaches work schedule and availability of volunteers to assist with setting up for practice.
Each coach will refine tactics and skills previously learned. U14 games are 11v11 on a full sized field. Positions, formations, and on-field tactics associated with 11v11 play will be introduced.
Rec soccer uniforms consist of a HYSA jersey. Jerseys are handed out at the beginning of the Fall Season. If you do not participate in the Fall, you will be provided a Jersey in the Spring. Rec jerseys are required for games. Players are responsible for shorts, socks, shin guards, and cleats. Coaches may request players wear matching shorts and socks on game days.
